Cooper Sheldon is currently serving in a unique position with the Stewards Individual Placement Program as a VISTA. Cooper is currently serving with the Heritage Initiative from the Calumet Collaborative Project in Chicago, IL and is earning credits towards his Graduate Degree with Michigan Tech University. 

AmeriCorps VISTA Carlos Naranjo has had a busy first two months of national service. Carlos is serving with North East Trees, a nonprofit in Los Angeles, CA that is working with the local communities to bring nature back to their urban environment. 

February 7, 2019 |  VISTA  member Austin Counts, serving at Appalachian Voices in Southwest Virginia, has been focusing his service on helping area residents access solar energy, reduce electricity bills, and lessen their reliance on fossil fuels. 

On October 1, 35 Stewards VISTA Members and five staff members convened at the Capital Retreat Center in Waynesboro PA for a three day training. This training is an opportunity to bring members together to not only learn valuable skills that will assist them during their year of service, but it also allows them the opportunity to network with others that are serving across the country.

November 11, 2018 | Second term AmeriCorps VISTA, David Kilroy, received the honor of helping cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the Kricker Innovation Hub at the Shawnee State University. The Innovation Hub will allow substantial growth to the city of Portsmouth and the surrounding community in the areas of technological literacy, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

November 11, 2018 | Jesse Furr isn’t messing around when it comes to talking about Rivers & Birds, his AmeriCorps VISTA host site in New Mexico. This small but mighty organization, with the help of a Stewards VISTA project, has strengthened and expanded its educational programming for years, but hopes to expand knowledge of their work in the local community. 

November 11, 2018 | September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance is the culmination of efforts, originally launched in 2002 that promotes community service on 9/11 as an annual and forward-looking tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks.
